Short description: Subject “Basic of Crop Production” includes issues concerning with the growth, development and yield creation of basic plant crop species (potato, beetroot, wheat, rye, triticale, barley, oats, maize, peas, beans, lupines, soybean, clover, alfalfa, oilseed rape, flax).
Full description: Basic concepts in plant production: production, productivity, fertility, yielding, yield, species, variety. Morphological and anatomical structure of basic crops. Plant development phases according to BBCH scale. Specific characteristics of breeding varieties. The use of plants in the economy for various purposes. Modern technologies in crop production.

Learning outcomes: The student has a basic knowledge in range of field plant production and crop production. The member of the course has a general knowledge about anatomy and physiology of plants, he or she knows biology of the most important crops. A student is able to get information in range of modern plant production and has some skills to recognize the basic crop plants in the field. A student has the skills for selecting appropriate plant varieties according to their usage, and are able to design crop production projects. A student understands the necessity of life-long learning. A student is aware of the responsibility for taking decisions.
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: -credit for a written test during lectures -attendance and activity during tutorials -oral discussion during tutorials -positive credit for a test is the effect of having knowledge about important crop plants and the meaning of their growth stages/phases according to BBCH-scale -personal and social competences (attitude and behaviour): assessment of student’s individual work and team work - a student is well prepared for the classes - the ability to work in team
